PHS cleared of hazardous material

Region 15 School District 15 has issued the following press release on the successful resolution of the hazardous material spill earlier today at Pomperaug High School (PHS).

Following a mercury spill caused by the breaking of a thermometer brought to PHS by a student today, DEEP arrived at PHS and has cleared PHS to resume classes.

Students who had been in the room in which the thermometer had broken were checked by DEEP and cleared to join the rest of the student body. DEEP remediated the classroom in which the thermometer had broken. DEEP has cleared PHS to resume classes with the exception of that classroom for today only, to allow for ventilation of the classroom. Students have resumed the school day and will be dismissed at the normal time.
