Police say to lock your vehicles overnight

Middlebury Police Chief James Viadero said residents of Middlebury, Southbury, Watertown and Woodbury should be advised to not leave their cars unlocked and with keys in the vehicle while parked overnight in their driveways. During the course of the past several days there has been a rash of incidents in which vehicles have been stolen from driveways.

The vehicles are being recovered in various locations, and it is apparent from this morning’s incident (Tuesday, Sept. 2) that a group of individuals  has been targeting the area looking for open vehicles with keys inside. In addition, a number of cars have reportedly been ransacked while left open in various driveways throughout Middlebury; these incidents are occurring in the overnight hours and in all instances the vehicle are unlocked.
